John O’Groats to Land’s End – Our way…

WellsWheels JOGLE completed 13th June 2013!

A cold, wet start

A cold, wet start

We actually left home on 13th April, 2013, cycled to Ouisterham to catch the ferry to Portsmouth followed by three train journeys to arrive at Thurso in time to cycle to John O’Groats for the chosen start of our ride on the 19th April, my late brothers’ birthday, in whose name we were collecting money for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society(NRAS). This gave us extra determination to start and complete our plan to cycle a route that would consist of roads, paths and tracks that have been designated ‘The UK National Cycle Network(NCN)’ – a route that was to eventually work out to 2,390 kilometres. (There was actually a gap of about 2kms through the village of Bottisford).

We are pleased to say that, as much as these things can, everything went to plan!

A cold wet finish!

A cold wet finish!

The bikes were faultless – we did not have any punctures, we did spend more money than we would have liked, mainly due to the bad weather persuading us to use B and Bs, Hostels and Hotels – we only camped a total of 6 times in the two months we were away.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to those that supported us by donations to the charity and by kind encouraging posts to our Facebook page.
